We help teams break free from foreign big tech.
We help engineering teams move away from hyperscaler clouds towards infrastructure they trust. Whether it’s cost, stability, or digital autonomy concerns, we’re here to help.
- Platforms engineering
- We provide your team with site reliability, devops, and platforms engineering expertise, and we help you build software that runs reliably on open platforms.
- Infrastructure migrations
- We help you move from foreign hyperscalers to on-premise, owned or rented bare metal, and European clouds.
- Open source adoption
- Move from foreign SaaS tools to open source alternatives. We run on open source ourselves and we can help you do the same.
- Substrate cloud platform
- We build Substrate, the managed control plane that turns your server fleet into your personal cloud platform. Fully managed, on your own hardware.
Take back control of your digital infrastructure.
What we do
Platforms engineering
We operate software infrastructure, for others as well as our own infrastructure. This means maintaining, monitoring, and securing Linux servers, databases, backend services, and supporting systems such as observability tools and networking. We provide 24/7 oncall services for systems that can’t afford downtime, and we work with teams to take their devops and site reliability engineering practices to the next level, especially at the intersection of cloud and bare metal.
Infrastructure migrations
The hyperscaler clouds are impressive feats of engineering, and solve real problems. They are also expensive, designed to lock you in, and a geopolitical liability. Bare metal is more approachable than you may realize, more performant, and a standardized commodity that is available from many local vendors. We’ve been operating bare metal infrastructure across European vendors for years. We know how to handle demanding security and uptime requirements. We can help.
Open source adoption
SaaS applications hold your data hostage, and can be forced by foreign governments to deny you access or to hand over your data. Open source puts you in control, but self-hosting can be daunting, and it’s a distraction from your core business. We can help you determine where the risk is in practice, and how open source can help address that. We also help you set up and operate free/libre open source software, and we provide support.
Substrate cloud platform
We build Substrate, the managed control plane that simplifies operating a fleet of servers. Substrate saves platform teams time by managing the mundane parts of their infrastructure: operating system security updates, disk encryption, network configuration, service discovery, and more. You get the convenience of managed cloud services, but on your own hardware.
Take back control.
We can help.
How we work
It starts with a chat
Let’s talk about what you do, how you work, and what you need help with. Is cloud working well for you, but does the single point of failure make you nervous? Are egress fees killing you? Is your organization at risk of being caught in a geopolitical crossfire? Let’s talk! You talk directly with an engineer, so we can go into as much technical detail as needed.
You set the scope
Based on your needs, we propose how we can best help you. This can be through a one-off project with a clear scope and deliverable. It can also take the form of an ongoing engagement, for example to use our 24/7 oncall services.
We make it work
We prefer to work closely with your engineering team. This ensures that training and knowledge transfer happen continuously, not as an afterthought. When there is software to write, we build it together. When there is software to operate, we keep you in the loop. If desired we can operate it for you as an ongoing engagement.
About Soverity
We’re engineers
We are a group of software infrastructure veterans. We’ve worked across all layers of the stack: from the data center to backend software. We worked at big tech, we worked at small startups. Together we started Soverity.
We’re European
We are based in The Netherlands, with people across Europe. We want the entire world to benefit from our software and services, but we care especially about strengthening the digital autonomy of our local communities.
We live by it
We live and breathe open source. We’ve been contributing to free/libre software for the better parts of our lives, and we run our company on it. We don’t depend on American big tech. It takes more than a blocked cloud account to take our organization down.
