Open source adoption

Today’s software runs in the cloud, offered as a service on a monthly subscription plan. This has enabled a new generation of collaborative tools, but it also means that we no longer own our programs, and we no longer control our data. Keep paying or lose access. Digital sovereignty concerns are growing: building our society’s critical infrastructure on top of foreign subscription services has left us vulnerable. Free/libre open source software provides a safer foundation, but self-hosting can be daunting. At Soverity we run on software that we control where feasible, and we can help you do the same.

At Soverity we live and breathe open source software. We’ve been running and contributing to open source for the better parts of our lives. We like to be idealists, but in order to make meaningful progress towards sovereignty, we also need to be pragmatic. Some open source software projects are miracles of engineering, unmatched by any proprietary alternative. Sometimes it’s the other way around. Running an organization completely on open source software is not for the faint of heart, but taking a meaningful step towards digital autonomy is very feasible. We can help you map out your dependencies, your risk profile, and judge what is worth addressing, and what is achievable.

Migrations

We are engineers. What we deliver is not a report with recommendations, but full implementation. We help you set up and configure systems, we coach your team, we move data, and we write code if needed. We understand that your first priority is to keep your organization running smoothly, and that a sucessful migration is as much of a social project as it is a technical project.

Operations

We can help you host applications on your own hardware. Mattermost, Zulip, Forgejo, Outline, NextCloud, etc. We can operate software with complex hardware demands, such as local LLMs for privacy-preserving AI assistants and agents. We can also help you host the infrastructure that you need behind the scenes to run an organization, such as Keycloak or Rauthy for identity and access management, and e.g. Stalwart for email and calendar. We understand that this infrastructure is business-critical, so we provide oncall services to ensure uptime for applications that cannot afford to be offline. You get the privacy and control of a self-hosted application, reliably backed by our professional 24/7 oncall rotation.
